I am Sabrina, a Creative and Therapeutic Artist, who specialises in community and mixed media art. With community groups, such as amateur dramatic societies and residential day centre groups, I create scenes, facilitate activities, and organise events. I have worked with all age groups and enjoy the variety that they offer. As part of my experiences I have worked as a Special Needs Assistant providing one-to-one support for vulnerable participants. I have led group sessions with people who have complex needs and other groups where sensory activities need to be provided. Being a Mixed Media artist means that I have a range of materials I use, from recycled projects with schools, digital art and photography, to glass painting with day care visitors. From small scale rock art, to big props used in shows, these skills mean that I have and can utilise many different materials to suit the participants I work with or groups I work for.
This video has been created from suggestions galthered from the public of what ‘love is…’ for them, inspired by the German comic ‘Liebe Ist..’ that I grew to love when visiting family in Germany. A celebration of love felt befitting for a film that, originally, was going to be exhibited in the wedding porch of St. Catherine’s Church, Pontypridd. Once all the doors in the porch are closed, it makes for a dark, perfect space for viewing film. In order for the work to be accessible, I wanted to use British Sign Language as the primary mode of communicating the poem the public had co-written, and therefore experiented with UltraViolet paint and lighting to illuminate the BSL in the dark. As the work evolved, the UV aesthetic reminded me of the aesthetic of cyperpunk club culture, and I hope it can now transport you to my imagined, cyberpunk-inspired future.
